This is a color photograph of a dead beached whale (see #s 1996-115-01 and 116-01). The view is of the back and left side. The tail is resting on the sand in the right foreground and the left flipper is visible up by the front of the whale. The tide is coming in and the whale is almost entirely in shallow water.
